Vancouver Christmas Market: Dates, Tickets and Canyon Lights
The Vancouver Christmas Market runs November 16 to December 24 at Jack Poole Plaza on the downtown waterfront, in its sixteenth season. This page covers the dates and opening hours, how timed entry works and what a ticket costs, what you find inside the gates, and whether it is worth the price. It also explains how to pair the market with Canyon Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge on the same evening, using the free shuttle from Canada Place. The rest of the season is on Vancouver in winter, and the year-round list on things to do in Vancouver.
Quick answer Dates, ticket price, hours and the Canyon Lights pairing
The Vancouver Christmas Market runs November 16 to December 24 at Jack Poole Plaza, with single tickets from $5.79 (CA$7.99) and a 30-minute arrival window on every ticket. Kids 6 and under enter free. Because the free Capilano shuttle leaves from Canada Place on the same waterfront block, you can see Canyon Lights first and still make the market's 7 p.m. Gluhwein toast, with the last shuttle back from the park at 10:05 p.m.
Key takeaways
- Until December 4 the gates open only at 4:00 p.m. on weekdays. From December 5 they open at 11:30 a.m. every day: the full hours table.
- Canyon Lights costs nothing beyond park admission: the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park ticket at $57.10 covers it.
- Short on time? the Christmas lights karaoke trolley starts at the market gate.
- The market is one of the season's biggest things to do in Vancouver in winter.

Vancouver Christmas Market Dates, Hours and Tickets
The market runs 39 days from November 16 to December 24, with hours that stretch as Christmas gets closer.
The hours below come from the market's own plan-your-visit page and shift three times across the season. In the first weeks the gates open only in the evening on weekdays, then at 11:30 a.m. every day from December 5. The final week brings extended hours, and December 24 is a short day that ends at 6 p.m.
| Dates | Weekdays | Weekends | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| November 16 to December 4 | Monday-Friday 4:00-9:30 p.m. | Saturday and Sunday 11:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. | Weekday gates open only at 4 p.m. |
| December 5 to 18 | Sunday-Thursday 11:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. | Friday and Saturday 11:30 a.m.-10:00 p.m. | Weekday daytime opens up |
| December 19 to 23 | 10:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. | 10:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. | Extended hours, the busiest week |

Timed Entry and What a Ticket Costs
Every single ticket books a 30-minute arrival window. Miss your window by a few minutes and you join the line for the next slot, capacity permitting. Once inside, you can stay as long as you like.
Pre-sale pricing runs to November 15, with standard pricing from November 16, and prices go up again on the day. You can buy at the gate, but only at day-of pricing, and weekend slots can sell out. Tickets are non-refundable, and changing your time slot carries a service fee, so pick the window carefully when you book.
Groups of 15 or more save 20 percent on tickets of CA$19.99 or more. The ticket price, the market says, funds a managed site with controlled capacity and the entertainment included at every visit.
The table compares every ticket type on sale, with the pre-sale figures converted at the site rate. The cheapest route in is a single entry booked before November 15, while the passes pay off if you plan more than one evening. Special events are priced separately from admission.
| Ticket | Price | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Single entry | from $5.79 (CA$7.99) | One visit, at pre-sale pricing before November 15 |
| Season Pass | from $23.90 (CA$32.99) | Repeat visitors, with unlimited visits, priority entry and no time-slot booking |
| Family Season Pass | from $54.30 (CA$74.99) | 2 adults 15 and over plus 2 youth aged 7 to 14 |
| Kids 6 and under | Free | No ticket, pass or time slot needed |
| Special events | from $21.70 (CA$29.99) | Workshops, Date Night, Breakfast with Santa and Breakfast with the Grinch |
One Ticket, One Visit: No Re-entry
Re-entry is not permitted once you exit, for capacity and safety reasons. That makes one single ticket exactly one visit, so plan to eat, drink and shop in a single stretch. If you want to pop out for a break, you either buy a second ticket or hold a Season Pass, which is the only way in twice without booking twice.
The passes carry priority entry and no time-slot booking, which also helps on busy nights. To line the market up with other seasonal events in town, check our events calendar before you lock in a date.

What Is Inside the Market
The market fills Jack Poole Plaza beside the Olympic Cauldron with alpine-style huts, three stages of entertainment and a carousel.

Ornaments, toques and wooden toys under the hut eaves: the shopping is the main draw, and it costs extra on top of the ticket.
The Huts and What They Sell
More than 90 wooden huts fill the plaza, built in the alpine style the market took from German Christmas villages. They sell European food, drink, ornaments, crafts and gifts, and the shopping counts as the main draw for many visitors. Food, drink, shopping, workshops and premium experiences are all extra on top of admission, so a cheap single ticket still means spending inside if you want the full evening.

Gluhwein, bratwurst and pretzels: bring two pieces of ID for anything alcoholic.
Gluhwein, Bratwurst and the Food Line
The drinks list runs to Gluhwein, spiked apple cider, Feuerzangenbowle and Bavarian beers, and you need two pieces of ID for alcohol. No outside alcohol is allowed. On the food side, look for bratwurst, warm pretzels, chocolate-dipped treats and hearty European fare, with vegetarian and vegan options.
Destination Vancouver also lists schnitzel, raclette and roasted nuts. It is an outdoor event, so dress warmly, and note that outside food and drink are not allowed, though water bottles and homemade food are.

The Pyramid is the stage for the 7 p.m. Prost toast, with snow showers every 30 minutes.
The Pyramid and the 7 p.m. Prost Toast
The Pyramid is the market's centrepiece stage, and it anchors the nightly programme. Snow showers fall every 30 minutes, and an hourly Pyramid light sync runs the lights together. The Prost Show is a communal Gluhwein toast held daily at 7 p.m. beneath the Pyramid, and it draws a crowd, so arrive a few minutes early with your mug.
Entertainment also runs on the Strasbourg and Munich stages, making three stages in total across the plaza.

The carousel is included with admission for riders at least 2 years old and 91 cm tall.
Carousel, Santa and the Free Extras
Admission includes unlimited carousel rides for riders at least 2 years old and 36 inches or 91 centimetres tall, so smaller children watch from the rail. Also included are entertainment on all three stages, Santa's Workshop photo opportunities, and characters such as the Grinch, Elsa and Jack Frost. Storytelling with Mrs. Claus is free on Sundays, and every arrival comes with a free candy cane.
What costs extra is the food and drink, the shopping, the workshops and the premium experiences, and families should budget for those on top of tickets.
New This Season
Five additions debut this season. They are the Wishing Forest, a Secret Cocktail Wall, a Fire Pit Lounge, Alley Press vintage photos and a limited-edition tree-shaped collectible mug illustrated with Vancouver landmarks. The fire pits are the useful one on a wet waterfront night.
The mug is a keepsake for the Gluhwein, so ask for it when you order if you want to take one home.

Is the Vancouver Christmas Market Worth It?
Yes for families with young children, couples and gift shoppers. No if you expect a free market or want to bring a dog.
Who It Suits and Who Should Skip It
Families with children 6 and under get the best deal, because those kids enter free with no ticket or time slot, and the carousel, Santa and characters are included. Couples should book the Date Night special event from $21.70 (CA$29.99) and time the visit for the 7 p.m. Prost toast.
Shoppers get more than 90 wooden huts in one lit square. Skip it if you want a free market, because the Shipyards Christmas Market across the harbour charges nothing at the gate. Skip it too if your dog travels with you, since pets are not permitted and only service animals are welcome.
When to Go to Avoid the Crush
The market's own FAQ names the peak times: weekday evenings from 4 p.m. and Friday to Sunday. That rules out most of the first weeks, because until December 4 the weekday gates open only at 4 p.m., which is the peak itself. The quiet window opens on December 5, when Monday to Thursday start at 11:30 a.m.
Book a weekday arrival window between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. from then on and you get the huts before the after-work crowd. From December 19 to 23 the gates open at 10 a.m., so a morning slot is the escape in the busiest week.
Getting to Jack Poole Plaza
The market sits at 1055 Canada Place beside the Olympic Cauldron, just outside the Vancouver Convention Centre, at the edge of downtown.

The Olympic Cauldron on Jack Poole Plaza marks the spot: the market fills the plaza around it, about 10 minutes on foot from Waterfront Station. Photo: Dietmar Rabich, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons
SkyTrain, SeaBus and Bus
Waterfront Station is the closest transit hub, served by the Expo and Millennium Lines, the Canada Line and the SeaBus, and it sits about a 10-minute walk from the plaza. Buses 19, 240 and 250 stop near Canada Place. Coming from Canada Place itself, you are already on the right block.
Fares and passes are on getting around Vancouver.
Driving and Drop-off
There is a drop-off zone at the foot of Howe Street, which works for taxis and rideshare. Parking sits under Canada Place and at WestPark at 1055 Canada Place, both a short walk from the gates. To skip the car entirely, hotels within walking distance of the waterfront are grouped by area.
Kids, Strollers, Dogs and Wheelchairs
Free unattended stroller parking is provided, which helps with the carousel and the crowded hut rows. The plaza is fully accessible, with wide paved paths, ramps and accessible toilets. Caregivers enter free when they present a caregiver or Access 2 card.
Dogs and other pets are not permitted, and service animals are welcome. The rest of a family day is on Vancouver with kids.
Canyon Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge
Canyon Lights runs November 20 to January 10 at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park in North Vancouver, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with last entry at 9 p.m. It closes December 25.

What Is Lit
The whole canyon property carries lights. LIGHT STORM fills the Cliffwalk Gardens, and WILDLIGHT returns in a new location. The suspension bridge itself is strung, and a North Pole photo spot gives families a set piece.
Live entertainment runs nightly. The Cliff House serves mulled wine and eggnog, which pairs well with the cold. The bridge, Treetops Adventure and the Cliffwalk are all part of ordinary admission, so you can walk the lit span as many times as the lines allow.
The Ticket: Ordinary Admission Covers It
Canyon Lights is included in ordinary park admission or the Annual Pass, with all park attractions and seasonal events covered. Timed entry applies, so you choose a date and arrival window when you buy: 30-minute windows on weekends and holidays, 1-hour windows on weekdays. BC Annual Passholders must reserve online, and peak hours are limited.
Children 0 to 5 enter free, and visitors in wheelchairs get complimentary admission since the bridge, Treetops and Cliffwalk are not wheelchair accessible. The Capilano Suspension Bridge Park ticket sells at $57.10 and is valid for Canyon Lights evenings because the event sits inside the admission. Ages, passes and the arrival windows are on the Capilano Suspension Bridge tickets page.
The free park shuttle is the easiest link between downtown and the park, and its Canyon Lights schedule runs November 20 to January 10 according to the park's own shuttle schedule. After 5 p.m. it becomes a Canada Place express, which is exactly what the market-and-lights evening needs. Note the midday service pause.
| Shuttle detail | Canyon Lights season |
|---|---|
| Pickup stops | Canada Place, Hyatt Regency on Melville Street and Blue Horizon on Robson Street, guests only, first come first served |
| Ride time | About 20 minutes each way |
| After 5 p.m. | Runs as a Canada Place express, from 4:45 p.m. starting December 18 |
| Last bus from Canada Place | 8:00 p.m. |
| Last bus back from the park | 10:05 p.m. |
Booking It as a Tour
Four bookable tours include or offer Canyon Lights. The Canyon Lights holiday tour costs $99, runs 3 hours and takes up to 6 people with downtown pickup. The Capilano car tour with the Canyon Lights option costs $138 over 1.5 to 2.5 hours in a private or small-group car, with the evening option chosen at booking. The city highlights and Capilano holiday lights tour costs $142 over 5 hours on a coach of up to 30, adding downtown and Granville Island. The private Christmas lights tour with entry tickets costs $396 for a private group of up to 11 over 5 hours and bundles VanDusen, Canyon Lights, the Forbidden Forest and the Christmas market. Every other bookable day is on the Vancouver tours page.

The Market and Canyon Lights in One Evening
The market at Jack Poole Plaza and the free Capilano shuttle stop at Canada Place sit on the same waterfront block, which makes a two-stop evening easy.
The Route
There are two ways round. Lights first: take the free shuttle from Canada Place to Capilano in the afternoon, about 20 minutes, and stay until the canyon is dark. Ride back on an evening shuttle that lands you at Canada Place before 7 p.m., walk along the same waterfront to Jack Poole Plaza and make the Gluhwein toast beneath the Pyramid.
The market stays open until 9:30 p.m. or 10 p.m. depending on the week. Market first: book an arrival window from late morning in December, then catch a Canada Place shuttle by the last 8:00 p.m. departure. Last entry to the park is 9 p.m. and the last bus back leaves at 10:05 p.m.
Either way, book both arrival windows before you set out, because neither gate promises a walk-up slot on a December weekend.
Without a Car or a Plan
Two tours start or end close to the market gate if you would rather hand over the logistics. the Christmas lights karaoke trolley departs from the Vancouver Christmas Market at Jack Poole Plaza, loops Stanley Park, English Bay and Gastown over 2.5 to 3 hours and takes up to 38 people, with an optional extra-fee stop at VanDusen's Festival of Lights. If you prefer walking, the holiday history and hot chocolate walk runs 105 minutes downtown with a private viewing inside the Marine Building and ends ten minutes on foot from the market. Another evening, the SeaBus crosses to North Vancouver and its free Shipyards market.

Other Christmas Markets in Vancouver
Yes, there are Christmas markets in Vancouver beyond Jack Poole Plaza, and the best free one is across the harbour in North Vancouver.
The table compares the three seasonal markets in the region, using their own posted dates and entry rules. The Vancouver Christmas Market is the only one that charges for general entry, while Shipyards is free every night and Circle Craft charges adults but lets children in free.
| Market | Where | Dates | Entry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vancouver Christmas Market | Jack Poole Plaza | November 16 to December 24 | from $5.79 (CA$7.99) |
| Shipyards Christmas Market | The Shipyards, 125 Victory Ship Way, North Vancouver | November 27 to December 24 | Free |
| Circle Craft Holiday Market | Vancouver Convention Centre | November 11 to 15 | Kids 12 and under free |

The Shipyards rink is free from 12 to 8 p.m. Bring your own skates or rent them on site.
Shipyards Christmas Market, North Vancouver
The Shipyards Christmas Market runs November 27 to December 24 at The Shipyards, 125 Victory Ship Way, two minutes from the SeaBus terminal, with free entry every night. Hours are Sunday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., extended to 10 p.m. from December 18 to 23, with an 8 p.m. close on December 24. Free skating runs 12 to 8 p.m. on the rink, and you bring your own skates or rent.
It is the easiest budget alternative to the ticketed downtown market.
December 24 and 25
The Christmas Market's last day is December 24, when it closes at 6 p.m. The Shipyards market also ends December 24, closing at 8 p.m. Canyon Lights is closed December 25.
If your trip spans those dates, plan your market night for December 23 or earlier, when the gates stay open until 10 p.m., and keep December 25 for a quiet day. For another December day, the Victoria and Butchart Gardens Christmas tour runs 12 hours from downtown with Butchart Gardens entry and the ferry included. More on the island capital is on the Victoria page.

Market: November 16 to December 24Vancouver Christmas Market Dos and Don'ts
A short list of habits that make a market evening run smoothly.
Do
- Book your 30-minute arrival window online before you go, because gate tickets cost day-of prices and weekend slots can sell out.
- Arrive near the start of your window, since missing it by a few minutes puts you in the line for the next slot, capacity permitting.
- Eat, drink and shop in one stretch, because re-entry is not permitted once you exit.
- Time your visit for the 7 p.m. Prost toast beneath the Pyramid, and catch the snow showers that fall every 30 minutes.
- Bring two pieces of ID if you want Gluhwein, Bavarian beer or any other alcohol.
Don't
- Don't bring your dog, because pets are not permitted and only service animals are welcome.
- Don't carry outside food or drink past the gate, though water bottles and homemade food are allowed.
- Don't buy a single ticket for two visits, since one ticket is one visit and a Season Pass is the only way in twice without booking twice.
- Don't try to change your time slot after it starts, because changes must be made before the slot begins and carry a service fee.
- Don't count on warm weather, because the market is outdoors on the waterfront and you should dress warmly.
Vancouver Christmas Market: Questions
Is the Vancouver Christmas Market worth going to?
It is worth it for families with children 6 and under, who enter free and get the carousel, Santa and characters included. Couples get the Date Night special event and the 7 p.m. Prost toast. Shoppers get more than 90 wooden huts in one lit square. Skip it if you want a free market, because the Shipyards Christmas Market across the harbour charges no entry, or if you travel with a dog, since pets are not permitted. Pair it with Canyon Lights to get two lit attractions from one evening.
Are there Christmas markets in Vancouver, BC?
Yes, three. The Vancouver Christmas Market runs November 16 to December 24 at Jack Poole Plaza with tickets from $5.79 (CA$7.99). The Shipyards Christmas Market in North Vancouver runs November 27 to December 24 with free entry every night, two minutes from the SeaBus terminal. The Circle Craft Holiday Market sits at the Vancouver Convention Centre from November 11 to 15, with 315 plus Canadian artisans and kids 12 and under free. Find the seasonal rundown on our events calendar.
Is Vancouver worth visiting at Christmas?
December stacks up well. The Vancouver Christmas Market lights Jack Poole Plaza from November 16 to December 24, Canyon Lights runs at Capilano from November 20 to January 10, and the free Shipyards market adds skating in North Vancouver. Check Vancouver attractions for the rest of a winter trip. The tradeoff is short days and rain, so plan the lit attractions for the evening.
Do you need tickets for the Vancouver Christmas Market?
Yes, except for children 6 and under, who enter free with no ticket or time slot. Everyone else buys a ticket with a 30-minute arrival window, from $5.79 (CA$7.99) at pre-sale pricing. You can buy at the gate, but at day-of pricing, and weekend slots can sell out. Tickets are non-refundable. Kids and budget travellers should also look at our roundup of free things to do in Vancouver for nights when the ticketed market does not fit.
What are the Vancouver Christmas Market hours?
From November 16 to December 4, the market runs Monday to Friday 4:00-9:30 p.m. and weekends 11:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. From December 5 to 18, it opens 11:30 a.m. daily, closing 9:30 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. December 19 to 23 brings extended hours of 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and December 24 closes at 6 p.m. Weekday evenings from 4 p.m. and Friday to Sunday are the busiest stretches. Full seasonal planning lives in our Vancouver in winter guide.
Is there a Vancouver Christmas Market discount code?
A discount code is not stated on the market's own pages. The savings that are published come from timing and group size. Pre-sale pricing runs to November 15, standard pricing starts November 16 and prices go up on the day, so early booking is the cheapest route. Groups of 15 or more save 20 percent on tickets of CA$19.99 or more, and children 6 and under enter free. For other savings across the city, our tickets page compares the main paid attractions.
Can I bring my dog to the Vancouver Christmas Market?
No. Dogs of any size and other pets are not permitted inside the market, and only service animals are welcome. If you travel with a dog, the free Shipyards Christmas Market in North Vancouver is an outdoor alternative on the other side of the harbour, two minutes from the SeaBus terminal. Check its own rules before you go, because they are not the same market or the same operator.
Can I leave and come back in?
No. Re-entry is not permitted once you exit, for capacity and safety reasons. A single ticket buys one visit, so eat, drink and shop in one stretch. The only way to enter twice without booking twice is a Season Pass from $23.90 (CA$32.99) pre-sale, which allows unlimited visits all season with priority entry and no time-slot booking, though it is non-transferable and requires government ID matching the name.
Is Canyon Lights included in the Capilano ticket?
Yes. Canyon Lights is included in ordinary park admission or the Annual Pass, with all park attractions and seasonal events covered. Timed entry applies, with 30-minute windows on weekends and holidays and 1-hour windows on weekdays. BC Annual Passholders must reserve online and peak hours are limited. Our Capilano Suspension Bridge ticket costs $57.10 and is valid for Canyon Lights evenings. The park is at 3735 Capilano Road, about 20 minutes by free shuttle from Canada Place.
